Classroom Happenings

Mrs. Kraft’s  2 1/2 Year Old, 2 Day Class

In May we learned about the life cycle of a butterfly by reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We worked on our small motor development by crinkling tissue paper to make a fuzzy caterpillar. Then we painted colorful wings. By gluing the two projects together, we created beautiful butterflies. We gracefully “flew” them around the room as we sang our butterfly songs.

Who lives on a farm? We named farm animals and imitated the sounds they make. We stamped many different farm animals to our paper, added a red barn, and made our own farm.

We celebrated a very special day—MOTHER’S DAY! We talked about how much we love our mommies. They do so many things for us. We took great care in making our Mother’s Day gifts and cards. We know they will always be treasured.

We had a teddy bear picnic! Our teddy bears visited our school. They joined us for a morning of songs, stories, bubbles, snack, and smiles.

While practicing our cutting, we made red, white, and blue collages, adding shiny stars along the way. We had our own Memorial Day parade, marching to “God Bless America.”

We had our daddies in mind when we made our final project for the school year. This, of course, was for FATHER’S DAY.

Have a relaxing summer. Enjoy your beautiful children. We certainly have.

Mrs. Whiting and Mrs. Tangreti's 2 1/2 year old Class

We are enjoying school so much, playing with our friends, doing puzzles together and making worms and pancakes out of playdough. We are having pretend tea parties and dressing up. We even enjoyed blasting off in our pretend rocketship! Spring is here and we have enjoyed a spring walk looking at all the beautiful blossom trees and a very sunny day of kite flying.

During our transportation theme we sorted transportation into groups that went on land, water or air. We liked putting the transportation felt piece into the correct group. In the sand box we used trucks and road machines to push and dig and roll the sand. In the water table we floated boats and just had fun letting the water flow through our fingers. In science we made traffic lights out of graham crackers, frosting and gum drops. We talked about what Mommy and Daddy do when they see a green light and a red light. We learned that orange means slow down.

We are now talking about food. We tasted different fruit and we made a graph to find out which fruit was the class favorite. It was grapes! After reading ''Pancakes Pancakes" by Eric Carle we made our very own pancakes! We used our senses to smell the pancakes, watch the pancakes and taste the pancakes...Yum…they were good! Our class has its very own grocery store. We get to shop and then take turns being the shop keeper.

May is Mommy Month. We will look at baby animals and their mothers. We will read lots of books about all the wonderful things Moms do for us. We will sing some Mommy songs that we can sing on Mother’s Day and give her the special surprise we are making for her. We need to keep it a secret!

After Mother’s Day we will have fun with teddy bears. We will invite our bears to school for a Teddy Bears Picnic, make honey sandwiches and go on a bear hunt if we are really brave!

Our year has gone so quickly… having fun and learning something new every day. At our class picnic we will say goodbye for the summer until we meet again in the fall to start a new school year. Mrs. Tangreti and I wish you all a very relaxing summer!
