History
Established in
1965, St. Andrew’s Nursery and Kindergarten, is a
non-profit organization under the auspices of St.
Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese
of New Jersey. Children of all religious faiths are
welcome, and throughout the year, they are exposed
to a variety of traditions and cultures. The school
is licensed by the state of New Jersey and is an
active member of the National Association of
Episcopal Schools. St. Andrew's serves
children from Union, Morris, and Somerset counties,
including the surrounding communities of New Providence,
Berkeley Heights, Chatham, Summit, Madison, Scotch
Plains, Warren and Watchung. All are welcome.
Quality Faculty
St. Andrew's is proud of its professional faculty
and staff of thirty people. Every classroom is under
the direction of both a head teacher and an assistant
teacher. Every teacher is required to enhance their
teaching abilities by attending professional conferences,
seminars and in-service days to keep them up-to-date
with educational developments in the field.
- All head teachers are state certified.
- Classroom teachers are supplemented by a music
teacher and a French teacher.
- The faculty is further enriched by student
teachers pursuing degrees in early childhood education.
Safe Facilities
The school uses three unique buildings located on
the picturesque five-acre grounds of St. Andrew’s
Episcopal Church. There are four playgrounds –
innovative environments designed to stimulate the
development of large motor skills through various
play apparatus. On inclement days the school
provides a facility for an indoor gymnasium. The
doors are secured during school hours. All visitors
entering the building must come to the Nursery
School Office.
Nursery
School Advisory Board
The The Nursery School Advisory Board was created
in 1991. Membership on the Board consists of 11
persons. All members shall be selected by the
Nomination Committee and elected by the School
Board, with the consent of the Rector and Vestry.
Two persons shall be from the church: one Warden and
a Vestry member. The Rector and Director will serve
as non-voting members of the Board. The remaining
five members shall be active parishioners or
non-parishioners. Each Board member shall serve a
period of three years beginning January 1. Board
members may serve two consecutive terms, but must be
off the Board for at least one year after a second
term.
The primary function of the
Nursery School Advisory Board is to oversee the conduct of business
and financial affairs of the school. Authority for
the direction of school life—including the
academic, moral, physical aspects, and authority
for the conduct of business and financial affairs—is
delegated by the rector with the advice and consent
of the vestry to the board of trustees of the school.
